BJP MP Varun Gandhi was on Tuesday acquitted by a Pilibhit court in
Uttar Pradesh in connection with a hate speech case lodged against him
during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
The relief for the young leader comes days after his acquittal in a similar case by a Bareilly court on February 27.
As in the previous court decision, the basis for the latest order was that there was no evidence against the BJP leader to prove the charge.
He was earlier acquitted by the court of chief judicial magistrate Abdul Qayyum in a case of hate speech during an election rally at Dalchandra locality lodged against him at the Kotwali police station in March 2009. Two cases were lodged against him during the Lok Sabha polls. The second case was registered in Barkhera area of Pilibhit.
